World Tavern Poker

So lets say your into the whole poker scene, and you want to try your hand at playing in a big tournament, but you can't seem to get yourself to a venue where gambling is legal. No Problem. We have come across the perfect solution for you, World Tavern Poker. Its all the fun, excitement, and competition of poker, but in your local Tavern, and without that pesky gambling.

The World Tavern Poker Tour is a Nationwide Poker League where you will be competing during the season in Tournament Style Poker Events at your local tavern. The top 20 players in each tournament receive points, and are ranked at the Tavern, Regional and National Levels.
At the end of the season, the top players at each tavern qualify for the Tavern Championship, and the top players from each Tavern Championship qualify for the City (area) Championship.

It was probably just a matter of time before local taverns figured out a way to join in on the crazy poker-mania thats sweeping the nation. World Tavern Poker was their answer. They have a series of tournaments much like darts, or trivia tournaments that you can already find in your favorite watering hole. The rules are pretty simple, and the biggest rule of all seems to be:

No Gambling
This rule is taken very seriously. Any Tavern or Player caught wagering cash, property or anything of value will immediately be terminated from the league.
NO EXCEPTIONS!

Poker with no gambling? Is that even fun? As it turns out, yes. Players enjoy the thrill of the game, and the challenge of competing with each other for the bragging rights of winning, as well as for small prizes like t-shirts, hats, and of course, beer.

Those players who do well enough, move up in the tournament rankings and can compete for even bigger prizes. In fact, in just 1 day, at Binion's in Las Vegas, the WTPT (World Tavern Poker Tour) will be holding its third World Tavern Poker Open. This is described as "the worlds biggest poker party". There are big prizes, top-level competition, and a host of other crazy fun and games like:

World Tavern Poker Shootout -- the winner gets a helicopter ride in the grand canyon

The Bad Beat Bash -- Presentation of Trophies, Free Food & Drink, On The Bubble Contest

A Bloody Mary Tournament -- an early morning tourney

And whole host of poker tournaments -- we count about ten!

Sadly, the Open's tickets are sold out, but there's always next year!

And while we look forward to next year's Open, we can take part in the fun at our local tavern now! It looks like we're already in the middle of a season (week 5), but thats no reason not to try and join in the fun.
