Waterfront SugarHouse Casino Launches in Philadelphia
That's right - it's finally open - the SugarHouse Casino on North Delaware Avenue features three lucky sevens on the Ben Franklin Bridge in it's sign, and hopefully the luck is really there so this casino does well in the poor economy.
With the casino's opening Thursday, management wants to lure gamblers from the tri-state area into Philadelphia's first casino with the slogan: Philly Loves a Winner. Located a mile north of the bridge in the city's Fishtown neighborhood, the ultramodern, $390 million venue expects to take another bite out of Atlantic City, which already is bleeding billions from mounting competition.

As you walk into the new Sugar House Casino in Philadelphia you get the feeling you just entered an airport. To me this was almost worse then the feeling you get when you know your about to go to the dentist and you hear the sound of a drill. The seats at the slots were basically uncomfortable bar stools. It’s apparent the budget for this casino was based on the idea that you can just through tables and slots in a building and they will come. This idea is fine for some but the spoiled and pampered gamblers who are accustomed to the “Atlantic City Experience” will not be impressed especially if you’re accustomed to the Borgata or one of Trumps properties. The city should have just put slots in the city bars and avoided this eye sore they built on the Delaware River. What a big disappointment and a waste of my time.
