Vegas for the New Year

newyear1.jpg

If you're going to head somewhere special for the new year, you may as well do it Vegas Style.

Las Vegas New Year’s Eve Parties Where are you going to be when the clock strikes 12 on New Years Eve. Hopefully I can help you find the New Years Eve Party that fits you and your budget. Remember, just because you can drink at all hours of the day does not mean you should. Pace yourself, I once started a little too early and I passed out right on Fremont street before the party really got started. (I was young and did not understand Las Vegas on New Years)

That is About.com's opening paragraph for Vegas New Year's and that writer is not lying. New Years in vegas is a serious event.

If you think you have what it takes to rock it hard on December 31st, then read all about the fabulous venues coming up:

Casino Snob Holiday Buying Guide

The holidays are fast approaching, and that means is a chance for us to bring the world of Casinos into a loved one's life! We've got a handle on the holidays and some great ideas for gifts you can get even the most difficult to buy for on your list. So grab that holiday list, and prepare to shop till you drop as we present to you the Casino Snob Holiday Buying Guide!

Theres one thing a casino snob loves, and thats playing anytime, anywhere. Check out these home-casino items that would look great jammed in an oversize stocking, or wrapped up for giving!

caribbeanStudPokerLayout.jpg
We begin with a selection of Felt Tops. These are sure to warm the heart of any home gamer. And if you're a regular reader of the site, you may even be able to win a few from the house when they host their first game. And what could be nicer in the holidays than taking it from the house.
Here we have a Caribbean Stud Poker felt top. The opposite side also has a Texas Hold'Em trainer, though we've never had use for that side.

blackJackFelt.jpg
For those who prefer the Blackjack world, we can reccommend this Black Jack Felt Top. Its got all you need to hit or stay from the comfort of your parlor. Does anyone even have a parlor anymore?

Baccarat At Home!
As we've discussed before, Baccarat is so easy, even a drunken monkey can play it. And the best part is, folks think its sophisticated, so help them look like the coolest gamers around, and get them this Baccarat Mat.

Craps Layout
And of course, what home casino would be complete without a sweet craps setup. You're loved one can shoot the bones all night, and if you're extra nice, you can play the stick person.

So, you get the felt tops all right, but what about the other accessories they'll need? No problem. Here is a set of essentials that every home gamer will want.

Kem
First and foremost, any card game will need cards. And the best cards around are Kem cards. A solid set of Kem Cards will last you for a very very long time. They are more expensive than regular cards, and thats because of the quality of them. We've raved about these cards before, and we stick by 'em.

blackjackShoe
Now that you have picked up the cards, you may want to also pick up an 6 deck shoe. This will help you deal those cards in the slickest way possible. Its ideal for blackjack dealing, but its also handy for any card-dealing game your loved one may want to play. The kids even like to play go fish with it.

fiveDice.jpg
That may take care of the card players, but what about those craps accessories? Not to worry!
First off, we have the dice themselves. Now sure, any dice will do in a craps game. But if you want to let your casino snob show their casino style, then you have no choice but to get some profesional craps dice. You can grab a small set of five, or if you have a whole army of snobs (or one really forgetful one), you can pony up and get the brick of 400!

diceBowl.jpg
And now that you have all those dice, you'l want to get your snob the wooden bowl to hold them in! This bowl looks attractive on the table, and helps keep the spare dice separate from the dice that are in play.

crapsStick.jpg
Finally for that craps lovin' casino snob, the best of all craps accessories, the stick. They can run around and beat things like its a riding crop, or they can just handle the dice like a pro, and keep their home game cooking into the wee hours. And because size DOES matter (the size of the table silly!) you can choose from a selection of sticks including 24, 30, 36, 42, and 48. For the record, we reccommend the 42, but only because its the answer to life, the universe and everything.

slotMachine.jpg
But what if your snob's thing is slots? No worries! You can start with a sweet selection of slot machines. They range in price, and style. Included in this group are the Welcome to Las Vegas Skill Stop SLOT Machine, the Fru Full Skill Stop SLOT Machine, and the God Game Skill Stop SLOT Machine. You can even get a personalized version of the Welcome to Las Vegas model! Throw in a pack of tokens for your skill slot machine, and your slot lovin snob is as happy as a pig in mud!

Video Poker Machine
If they are someone you REALLY like. And if they do have just everything, then why not give them the real deal. This is a multi game video poker and slot machine. Just imagine your snob and their pals huddled around this baby cheering on as the bings abd boops whail on. Hmm.. Now that we think about it.You may want to get a set of earmuffs while you're at it, so you can sleep at night.

If you still need more ideas, why not check out the following articles. They have some books that may interest your casino snob, and help them improve their game when they head to the casino for fun.

October Wrap Up

Lean back in your easy chair and buckle that safety belt. Its time for the Casino Snob October Wrap up!

Blogpire News
We had more podcasts this past month. If you havent heard them yet, you can listen to yours truly, and Jay Brewer wax rhapsodic about all the blogpire has to offer.

Blogpire Podcast - Liquor Snob - All The News that's Fit to Drink 10.24.06

BlogPire Podcast - Autumnal Festival Episode - Fun Fall Products 10.09.06

Casino Snob Book Club
We kicked off a new category with a look at the perennial casino book: Bringing Down The House. Its a fine read, and you should deffinitely check it out.

Casino Style
There were a couple of Casino Cocktail Fridays. We sipped on a Tequila with Let it Ride and we had a frothy cold one while we played the slots.

We had some smart advice from Jack Colton to never wear sunglasses in those night clubs.

And finally in style, we took a great look at Old Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, and took an overview of the best of the Vegas Music CDs of that classic crooner.

Casinos
The Battle of Connecticut began, with our look at the two big casinos in CT, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. The battle still rages on, and we're excited to see round 2, but for now you can check out the Tale of the Tape.

We found out about the Casino And Gaming Fund and how you can bet on the house.

And finally we learned a little about Kevin Costner's Casino Adventures, and why Nevada may be getting a little more smoke free.

Entertainment
THe big news was of course our look at all the stuff going on for Halloween in Vegas. We are thinking that next year we will have to schedule a trip there for just the week of Halloween, as nowhere else can we slide on our Marilyn Manson costume and potentially win twenty thousand dollars.

News

Playboy made a big swing early in the month by opening up its new playboy club at the Palms.

We also covered a funny and crazy bank heist that looked like Ocean's Eleven.

But all that sex, crime, and rock and roll could not outshine the big bomb of October, the online gambling ban within the US. We are still dealing with the reprocussions, which have included places freezing accounts, buyouts, and mergers galore.

Yes, it was a wild October, and we're excited to see what happens next as we head into the Holidays.

Halloween in Vegas

Monster Meyhem Clown.jpg

So you find yourself without an invite to a halloween party this year? Not to worry. There are plenty of scares to be had all around Vegas on this spooky night! And if you see any elvis costumes, sexy costumes, or people on stilts, don't worry, they're probably just folks heading to work.

Monster Meyhem -- intersection of s. Las Vegas
BLVD and the 215 fwy, right across from Fry's electronics.

FRIGHTeNING STRIKES as Monster Mayhem returns to Las Vegas, bringing a new level of HORROR AND SHOCK, the likes of which has never, ever been seen in Southern Nevada. SEVEN COMPLETE HAUNTED HOUSES, an eerie above ground grave yard where disturbing VooDoo spirits and FIENDISH GHOULS wander amongst the crypts, fog filled pathways and creepy catacombs lined with CREATURES AND WORSE waiting for you around every corner, and much, much more…FIGHT OFF THE PANIC and don't look back, because you don't even want to know the TERROR that's behind you!

The Fright Dome -- Circus Circus
This is what happens when evil overtakes the circus. We thought the circus was scary enough already.

5 Haunted Houses including the all new Zombie Mansion
3 Haunted Ride Films
Freak Shows
20 Rides and Attractions
4 extreme scare zones

Saints and Sinners Ball at Jet -- Mirage
This is the big costume party, and ball. Its put on by Stuff magazine (hotties anyone?) and it has a top prize of 20,000 for the best costume.

Ghouls Gone Wild -- Harrah's Carnival Court

Over 10,000 in prizes for creative costumes and "sexy lady costumes". Sponsored by Bacardi, plenty of music, and the crafty bartenders will be showing their stuff while you show yours. Sounds like a wild party for sure.

If none of those sound good, The LA Review Journal's Page of Halloween events is simply chock FULL of things to do on Halloween night, so you have no excuse to sit at home. Get on our there and have a blast!

September Wrap Up

Another busy month here at the Casino Snob, and the time has come to do the September Wrap Up, so warm up some apple cider, and in this early October, let's remenice about the September just past.

On the gaming scene, the first thing we did is take an in depth look at BlackJack with another in our "all about" series. We covered the basics of the game, as well as a few products that we though could enhance your black jack experience.

We also took a look at some sweet products for your home casino with the high quality Kem Cards and your very own slot machine.

In addition, we reported on our happy experiences with the Winning Bid slot machine we found at Mohegan Sun.

In the Casino Style section, as always, we had a slew of Casino Cocktail Fridays covering such lovelies as The Gimlet, the Cosmopolitan, the Ace of Spades, Dumpster Juice, and the Campari and Soda.

We also pointed out the one hundred percent pure style of Jack Colton.

Finally on the news front, we pointed out many interesting stories. Among our favorites were the Roulette Device, the electronic poker table, and the money train.

We hope you found those treats interesting, and we'll do our best not to trick you as we enter October, and the heart of Fall.

Gallagher is Coming to Foxwoods

gallagher.jpg

Why does Gallagher get a story when so many other entertainers go on around us? Who can say, but you have to appreciate the smashing of watermelons, and wry political humor. We had the opportunity to visit Connecticut this past weekend, and you are sure to see many future stories about Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. In the meantime, we couldnt pass up the chance to let you konw that this week on September 29th, YOU could have the opportunity to get watermelons and other assorted food items smashed in your face.

Head on over to the Foxwoods Ticket Center and secure yourself a show with that zany comedian.

We also feel we would be remiss if we didnt mention that Alice Cooper will be ther on October 31st. Yeah.. not a bad Halloween party.

August Wrap-Up

Well another month has gone by, and its time to look back at August on the Casino Snob.

In the casino entertainment world we took a closer look at Cirque du Soleil and their odd blend of wonder and performance. We also let folks in on the hilarious and amazing duo of Penn & Teller, and how they can catch them perform in Vegas

In the Casino and Gaming section, we took some time to check out Baccarat, that high-brow game thats so simple even a secret agent can play it while on duty. We also spent some time with the Ponies at Rockingham Park. We even "touched down" on the sports bet scene when you have the inkling to bet on the NFL.

Texas Hold'em Took some of our attention, as we looked at a bunch of books that promised to help you win at the tables. And while technically It was back in July, we can't help but mention our post on craps, mainly because we just love the game that much.

In the Cuisine area, we kicked off Casino Cocktail Friday in style. Thats one series we just KNOW we are going to enjoy posting on for ages to come :)

All the while, the news ever flows onward, we did our best to give you the highlights of the Casino world. A look back at the gulf coast a year after Katrina, the talk about the largest casino in the world, and of course the current debate of the legality of Online Gaming.

Yes-sir-ee its been a good month here at Casino Snob, and we're glad to have you here with us! We hope you enjoyed you're summer, and now we're looking forward to Fall, and to all the casino-y goodness that awaits us!

Its like Magic, only Better

Penn and Teller

If you happen to be in Vegas, one show we here at the Casino Snob can't help but reccommend is Penn &Teller. If you have never heard of these two, you are clearly living under a rock, but no worries, as we will be the crowbar of understanding. Yes, Penn & Teller are amazing, smart, funny, sick bastards, and its just the kind of entertainment that can make a trip to Vegas that much more special.

Everybody Loves the Cirqus

O

Few shows are as beloved as the circus. And while the Cirque du Soleil is no ordinary circus, it makes for an extraordinary show. An amazing blend of talents, and spectacles, both children and adults can delight in seeing something you are not likely to see anywhere else.

The Cirque has five shows in Las Vegas, and the casino snob will introduce you to them all. We'll also point you to some of the outside-Vegas shows you can take in. So settle into your seat, grab yourself a popcorn (or a martini) and don't fear the clowns, as we take a closer look at Cirque du Soleil.
